Mike gave Rob a early christmas gift with a goaly out early in the first half.

Dave and Rob fought out an open match but no net busters. Goal frenzy third

match Dave scored in the third minute and looked good to score a second. Mike

stepped up his game and equalised nine minutes into the second half.

With five minutes remaining Dave found a winner. Then onto the herb dunall i think.

Three 0-0 games you would think not much happen here. Well you would need to play the game of Flats.
Then you would see the excellent blocking ,then the movement of figures to stop your opponent creating shooting position. There were shots and chances these were dealt with the goalkeeping and the odd post. The referee in each match was done to a fair and high standard with few mistakes.

Always going to tight amongst these three stalwarts with Jeff getting the only goal of the day four minutes into the game. Rob and Jeff played typical tight defending with Mike playing a much looser risk taking game which could have worked if only for the experience of the other two flat players. They just left nothing to doubt at the back. Leaves the last session next week very interesting with Mike actually holding a valuable keys as to who wins the championship.

Players gathered for the season

finale of the Flats at Firhill in Guisborough. Rob had finished his matches with 7 points from 6 games. Mike could

not catch him, having only 1 point in the bag.  Dave and Jeff were both on 5 points with two games to play. So it was all

to play for! Game 1 was Dave v Jeff and this was a tense affair. Both battled for the edge, knowing that a win almost certainly took the title from Rob. In the end it was a stalemate and another trademark 0-0 draw, so both players moved to 6 points. Jeff 0 – 0 Dave

At this point, the top three were all on +1 goal difference but Dave had 2 goals scored and Jeff had 1. So two more 0-0 draws would have

given Dave the title on goals scored. Game 2 was Mike v Dave. Mike was unable to string two flicks together for the first 10 minutes as Dave dominated the game. When Mike got the ball, he lost it straight away, inviting more pressure. However, on a rare foray into Dave’s half, the gap appeared and Mike was through and scored with a quick moving ball goal. The second half saw both players struggle. Mike simply

because Dave is so good, but Dave struggled as time (and the title) ticked away. Dave made lots of very uncharacteristic errors to let Mike escape time after time. The final whistle came just in time as Mike slumped against a chair….bloody knackered! Mike 1 – 0 Dave

So that was Dave out of the race, but now Jeff was the favourite to take the title. A 0-0 would produce a tie at the top but a 1-1 would give Jeff the crown, so he went for it.Game 3 and despite their best efforts, the score-line was 0-0 at half time. Not quite enough for Jeff but Mike was happy enough. Into the second half and Mike repeated his moving ball goal from game 2, but this one was a bit special. The gap was tight, even more so that the ball and man had to fit through the same tight gap without infringement. To his credit, Jeff realised that the

game and title were far from over. A goal from him gave him the top spot and after some concerted pressure the goal came with a great near

post shot. As things stood now, Jeff was preparing for the title party but Mike was not done. The chance to be a party pooper came and Mike rammed the ball home to ensure that Rob, against the odds, is,the new Champion!  Mike 2 – 1 Jeff
